Halloween Weddings

I have a love for all things dark as well as sparkly so it was nice to be able to work on something completely different. With Halloween fast approaching I decided to design something for all those couples tying the knot, who veer away from the norm and embrace their individuality. You can buy yours here now.

This is the first of many designs I am hoping to have available but please, if I don’t have what you are looking for get in touch!

A Botanical Photoshoot at Hellens Manor

We’ve all been a little down in the dumps lately due to the C word, Covid-19, which has pretty much messed up everybody’s lives over the past few months but none more so than all our couples who have been waiting patiently to get married.

The light is at the end of the tunnel but with still so many restrictions in place many couples have opted to postpone their nuptials until 2021 so, being fed up with twiddling her thumbs Nat at NEJ Wedding Photography decided to do a photoshoot and I was invited along.

The venue was Hellens Manor, a beautiful historic house set in Herefordshire licensed for civil ceremonies, which boasts beautiful gardens, acres of woodlands and even has its own labrinth.

This is where, with a few local suppliers, Nat’s “Botanical Elopement” came to life.

The gorgeous venue styling was by Dressed to Impress by Julie who added orange which really brought the table to life and looked stunning against the green of the palm leaves. Oh and the Moon Arch…I love it, it’s Julie’s newest product and makes a fabulous feature and it’s available to hire. Deb at The Beehive Florist provided the Brides unique bouquet and and all the fabulous greenery.

The Bride wears a beautiful Provonias dress with delicate leaves and embroidery from SJP Bridal  and together with a veil from Adorn by Ashley they are the perfect match. Her makeup was done by Emma at the Makeup Locker  and that statement headpiece and other jewellery is from Rachel at Mason Blue Design. Lastly but certainly not least, our Groom wears a lovely blue suit by Bill Child Formal wear. The Stationery of course was done by me, a combination of watercolour greenery and gold geometric shapes on white card, it’s a clean modern design without too much fuss, view the range here.

Thanks to Nat and all the other suppliers, the photographs are stunning and everything came together just perfectly. If you would like to see more from these suppliers, you will find all the links above.

Do you really need Save the Dates?

Save the date cards are not mandatory, and some feel they are an unnecessary cost however  if you’re planning a large wedding then yes, if you want to ensure everyone can attend then a little more notice will help.

If you are getting married in the summer which is a peak time for weddings a Save the Date will ensure your guests can take this into consideration before booking their family holidays or attending other weddings. The same applies if you are planning to get married around a holiday time such as Christmas.

If you are planning a destination wedding it’s a definite yes to Save the Dates, your destination can be added on the Save the Date so your guest’s are aware of this and they can budget and plan ahead accordingly.

Save the Date cards don’t have to be expensive and they don’t even have to match with the rest of your stationery so keep them simple, you can download free templates which are readily available online or think about sending them electronically.

How to make Wax Seals

Wax seals have become increasingly popular over the past 12 months and I often get asked for advice so for those of you who are making your own stationery I have put together some tips for you.

Now you can either go old school and melt wax in a spoon but I find the easiest and less messy way is to use a (hot glue) gun.  Most gun wax sticks are available in either 7mm or 11mm so check which size your colour is in before you buy your gun. Most hot glue guns are small but I like to go bigger so I can use the 11mm sticks. Having used wax I have found a temperature controlled gun one is much better to use; if you have no control over the heat your wax becomes very runny so its harder to work with and takes longer to set.

I use a silicone baking sheet to work on, its easier to peel your seals away from and will not melt with the heat and its easy to clean.

I find normally 2 squeezes of the gun is ample for a seal and I can usually get around 10 seals out of an 11mm stick but always buy extra just in case.

I always have an ice pack on standby with a towel for any moisture, the pack helps cool down the stamp in between seals if you start finding the wax is sticking in your stamp so this will help give you a clean and clear stamp.

Despite being confident in making wax seals if I get the opportunity I will make my seals separately to my invites and attach them with a little hot glue, its something to consider if you’re worried about messing up your invitations. Be cautious using the hot glue though as using a blob will melt your stamp design so use it thinly.

I hope all this helps but if you have any questions don’t hesitate to get in touch, Sarah x
